A bold Wiltshire renovation that proved you don’t always need an extension to find more space.
When our clients purchased their beautiful Wiltshire home, they fell in love with its large garden and tranquil brook. But the house itself was dark and disjointed, with cramped corridors and small, separate rooms that completely ignored the stunning views.
Our clients were a brave and trusting pair. We worked together on a bold renovation plan: remove the tired, rotten conservatory and not replace it. This gave us the opportunity to open up the home, creating an efficient new layout that made the most of the existing footprint without needing any new home extensions.
The renovation also focused on modernising the heating system. The house previously relied on expensive and inefficient storage radiators. We improved the insulation throughout, installed new underfloor heating for consistent warmth, and added a heat pump to futureproof the home and assist with the client’s goal to decarbonise.
We completely changed the flow by getting rid of the dark, narrow corridor along the back of the house. This opened up the space, but we were clever about it—we included sliding double pocket doors that allow the spaces to be separated whenever required. New dark aluminium sliding doors now run the length of the back of the house, inviting the main living areas to spill out into the garden and offering incredible sunset views.
We also added value to the entire home by reconfiguring the bathroom and including a separate W/C, and created a dedicated home office from the existing garage.
The result is a warm, inviting, open-plan space that’s perfect for entertaining but still feels like a cosy sanctuary for the couple. Through a thoughtful home renovation, we completely reimagined the house and delivered their dream Wiltshire home.
