Old Post Office - Linking, Living Room & Lounge

This extension project was defined by the physical gap between the existing house and the current annexe building. Our design challenge was to create a natural linking extension that carried the style and feeling of the original home through the new connection. Our goal was to make the space feel warm and settled, achieving a cohesive look rather than appearing as a bolted-on addition.

The client’s brief also included designing a warm, cosy, and settled TV and cinema room, and a garden-facing lounge. We achieved this versatility by incorporating a flexible furniture layout, allowing the homeowners to change the configuration of the sofas to suit the use and function of the space across the different seasons.

Addressing the various constraints, we carefully navigated a level change between the existing house and the new home extension and annexe. We also met the need to create extensive, integrated storage. The final result is a warm and settled space, with beautiful oak details, precise scribing, and thorough insulation throughout, ensuring an efficient and comfortable environment.

A complete and connected light and sound system provides a fantastic final touch, whether the space is being used for winter relaxing or enjoying the summer light. This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform challenging layouts into practical, enjoyable, efficient spaces.
