Garden Villas - Bath: A Curved Extension with Art Deco Inspired Charm

Our clients wanted an extension “nobody else on the street had“, while still feeling entirely at home alongside their Bath home. The result is a single-storey side and rear extension with subtle curves running through the design: Bath stone to the front elevation, and a softly rendered curve to the rear, giving the addition a distinct Art Deco coastal character without ever fighting the existing house.

Inside, the extension and the improvement it provided gave us the chance to fully renovate the kitchen, now a warm, sage-green space with integrated appliances and herringbone oak flooring running through to the dining area. Pocket doors were used throughout to keep the internal floor plan free of clutter, letting the new layout breathe rather than filling it with swinging doors and dead space.

To the rear, a new back door opens into a dedicated utility and boot room, exactly the kind of practical, unglamorous space that makes a family home actually work, coats on hooks, washing machine and dryer stacked out of the way, and room to kick off muddy boots before stepping further into the house.

We also carved out a quiet home office, tucked beneath a rooflight and lined with bookshelves, a calm, self-contained space away from the busier parts of the extension. Outside, a timber pergola now shades the patio, extending the living space into the garden for long summer evenings.

The result is a home that feels both entirely new and entirely theirs, curved, characterful, and built around exactly how this family actually lives.
